Founder and Artist:
Craig Freeman(b.1967). He studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He received a BFA from Pratt Institute in 1989. Freeman lives and works in New York City.
Since his first solo exhibition in 1988, Freeman’s work has been shown in local galleries and institutions in the greater New York area. His work was the subject of a student exhibition organized by the Prudential Life Insurance Company, which remains on exhibit (November 26, 1984 – Present) at the Prudential Life Insurance building in downtown Newark. First There Was Andrew, Freeman’s most recent work, is in private collection.
His work can at times be influenced by the social activism of the times, with a marked interest in events affecting the African-American community. Still most times he enjoys exploring the depths of spatial movement through multi-layered intertwining lines and/or shapes on undulating forms. He is currently working on three-dimensional works of art that blend together elements from the Christian faith with traditional painting mediums. His work is influenced by Christian themes, contemporary architectural design and logograms.
Craig Freeman has received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his artistic achievements. Notably, Freeman received the Society of Illustrator’s Student Award 1988; the “Newark Mayor’s Award for Artistic Excellence” from the City of Newark. Freeman is the Founder and CEO of The Young Men’s Christian Center (YMCC) in Brooklyn, NY.
